2007 June 8th/9th Boone Pride generated funds for our first award.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
-Open to any students seeking post-secondary education including GED (or high school diploma equivalent), Associate's or technical degrees
-One time award with the possibility of re-application
-Open to students from Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Yancey and Wilkes Counties
-Must be registered for three-quarter time attendance in a post-secondary educational institution
-Must be self-identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, or ally
-Demonstrate service generally (please indicate if service is LGBTIQ-related)

GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS:
-Payment of award will be made to the student with institutional co-signature
-Completed application including transcript, resume, questionnaire, statement of need (FAFSA contribution form, if applicable), and interview (with finalists)
-References from two persons (other than relatives) including at least one academic and another from a social, civic, employment, religious or peer group

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: March 31, 2008

AWARD AMOUNT: $1500

JUDGING CRITERIA
-Academic potential and/or evidence of academic achievement
-Evidence of participation and leadership in school and/or community activities (with a priority given to those with LGBTIQ experience)
-Evidence of future goals and determination to achieve them
-Sense of personal integrity, ethical judgment, and honesty
-Positive image of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or intersex communities
-Financial need and how you plan to pay for school

TERMS OF THE AWARD
All award recipients must:
- Allow Boone Pride Scholarship Committee to verify the authenticity of the application and submit to a criminal background check
- Submit proof of registration for the academic year at a post-secondary educational institution
- Submit grades at the completion of each academic term
- Attend Boone Pride award ceremony
- Check the boxes that apply regarding award publicity:

Applicants are judged by a Judging Committee separate from/ the Boone Pride Board of Directors. Judging Committee will consist of diverse members familiar with adolescent development, the LGBT community, academic scholarships, and/or higher education.
